Former minister Uzi Landau tells VOI’s Gil Hoffman, filling in for Dan Diker, what can be learned from the Gaza withdrawal 10 years ago.
Landau, who led the political struggle against Israel’s unilateral pullout from the Strip in 2005, responds to those who supported disengagement on the grounds that it would improve Israel’s security, defuse international initiatives against Israel, and decrease pressure from abroad. He says: “We need to learn that if we run away, it is perceived as weakness. It means more terror.”
He answers why the late PM Ariel Sharon made the move, and discusses whether PM Benjamin Netanyahu could have prevented it by joining Landau’s so-called Likud “rebellion” at the time.
