Re’em, Antiquities Authority Jerusalem District Archaeologist, describes the excitement upon the discovery of an ancient mikvah under the living room floor of a house in the Ein Karem neighborhood, which sits on a Second Temple era Jewish village traditionally associated with John the Baptist’s family. This is proof that Jews, maybe even priests, lived halachic lives here more than 2,000 years ago, before the Great Revolt against Rome that ended with the destruction of the Temple and the exile of the Jews. listen now
