Shabbat Shalom from Voice of Israel
Shabbat Shalom from Voice of Israel
This week, Israelis mourned the dead, while paying tribute to the lives of the many soldiers killed in action, and civilians targeted by terrorists for being Jews. National grieving was immediately followed by a country-wide celebration of Independence Day, with fireworks and festivities only minimally marred by unseasonably chilly weather. We at Voice of Israel brought you the simultaneously heart-wrenching and inspiring stories of bereavement and heroism -- indelibly intertwined in the collective consciousness of the state, which turned 67 on Thursday. It was an appropriate occasion to tell our listeners about the establishment of VOI and its mission, described by co-founder and Middle East Division CEO Glen Ladau. In case you missed it, here is a highlight from his interview with "Israel Inspired" show hosts Ari Abramowitz and Jeremy Gimpel.
Shabbat Shalom from Voice of Israel
Shabbat Shalom from Voice of Israel
This week, as Israelis prepared for and then commemorated Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day, anxiety was high in the country for additional reasons. The aftermath of the framework agreement between the P5+1 and Iran, including the discrepancy between the American and Iranian versions of it, and the passage of the US Senate bill giving Congress a greater say in any future deal, has taken center stage. So, too, has Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's negotiations with potential coalition partners to form the next government. Rumors of a secret meeting with Opposition leader Isaac Herzog have led to speculation that a national-unity government is in the works, as well as to questions about whether this might be connected in some way with confronting the Islamic Republic. Voice of Israel has been addressing these and other issues with customary depth. Here is a highlight from a program you may have missed, that discusses the possibility of rolling back the nuclear framework agreement.

J Street and Other Travesties
VOI's Josh Hasten editorializes on the latest news involving Israel, ranting against J Street -- whose annual conference ends today -- for its response to the victory of PM Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party in last week's Knesset elections. He takes Peter Beinart to task for calling on American Jews to come to Israel and participate in Palestinian demonstrations -- and confront IDF soldiers.
Shabbat Shalom from Voice of Israel
Shabbat Shalom from Voice of Israel
It was an extremely exciting, yet anxiety-producing, week in the Holy Land, as Israelis took to the polls on Tuesday to elect the next Knesset. The fever-pitch campaign finally culminated in a surprise twist: a landslide victory for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party. Here at VOI, we gave you live coverage of the hours leading up to and following the exit poll, as well as the aftermath of the actual vote count, with in-depth analysis and commentary from an array of in-house and external experts. Among them was Jerusalem Post Senior Contributing Editor Caroline Glick, author of "The Israeli Solution: A One-State Plan for Peace in the Middle East." In case you missed it, here is a highlight from her interview.
