Turning Sorrow into Hope, and a Woman Orthodox Rabbi(50:32)
|
VOI’s Eve Harow contemplates the three-week mourning period for the holy Temples in Judaism, rants about Ramadan and talks about bringing God into our lives.
Then, on the fast of the 17th of the Hebrew month of Tammuz, Eve is joined by Rabbi Chaim Richman, director of the Temple Institute. Providing an uplifting perspective during this difficult period, he suggests that the best way to deal with the absence of the first two Temples is to work on building the Third, not mourning over what was lost.
Finally, Eve is joined in-studio by newly ordained Orthodox woman rabbi, Rahel Berkovits, and her own rabbi, Herzl Hefter of the Harel Beit Midrash. They discuss whether the time has come to make this a mainstream occurrence. Berkovits also speaks of the impact her grandfather, Rabbi Eliezer Berkovits, had on her life and the goals she has set for herself in her new role.
