Rabbi Yair Kahn of the esteemed religious-Zionist Har Etzion Yeshiva in Gush Etzion joins VOI’s Eve Harow to discuss the controversial issue.
Rabbi Kahn says that it shouldn’t be an ethical, moral or feminist debate, and that there is room in Jewish law to allow for it. However, he explains, the key question is whether it leads to unity or foments disharmony among Jews, and he believes it is the latter. He therefore thinks that until there is a broader consensus about it, he wholeheartedly supports women filling leadership roles in the Torah world without being given the title of “rabbi.” listen now
