VOI’s Glen Ladau, filling in for Dan Diker, and Bassem Eid, are joined by Soli Shahvar to discuss Iran and by Khalid Amayreh on the failing of the PA.
First, Glen and Arab affairs analyst Bassem hear from Dr. Shahvar, director of the Ezri Center for Iran and Persian Gulf Studies at the University of Haifa, on the world’s nuclear agreement with Iran and Israel’s concerns with that agreement. Dr. Shahvar does not believe even US President Barrack Obama thinks the agreement will prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons, saying “We cannot endanger the existence of Israel because we assume we might be able to counter an attack when it comes.”
Then, Glen and Bassem discuss the book published by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in which he calls for a long period of low-intensity warfare designed to make life impossible for Israeli Jews. Although Iran’s chief imam says his position is based on “well-established Islamic principles,” Bassem, a Muslim, makes it very clear he does not believe the Koran supports this position.
Finally, Glen and Bassem talk on the phone with Palestinian journalist and current-affairs political commentator Khalid Amayreh, who says he believes the Palestinian Authority is failing its people. He believes the possibility of a “two-state” solution is no longer viable, leaving open-ended conflict as the only option. listen now
