VOI’s Ari Abramowitz and Jeremy Gimpel meet two lone soldiers; discuss the beginning of Elul; and rail against Obama’s attitude to terrorism.
First, Ari and Jeremy are joined in-studio by Mordy Botnick, from Ottawa, and Ari Abramowitz (no relation to the host) from Monsey, NY, two lone soldiers serving in the IDF. They describe their organization, Chayal el Chayal, dedicated to providing lone soldiers with physical and moral support — including Shabbat meals, a place to rest and do their laundry and much more. Recounting some of their own trials and tribulations, they explain why having a support system is so important.
Then, Ari and Jeremy explain the customs and significance of Rosh Chodesh (the beginning of the month of) Elul, a time for setting guidelines and personal goals. They talk about their own experiences recalibrating their lives, from juice fasts to exercising.
Finally, Ari and Jeremy discuss the map that ISIS recently released, marking the conquests they will have made by 2020. It is a sea of black with Israel at the center. They put this in the context of American-Jewish tendency to make a distinction between one terrorist organization and another — arguing that ISIS and the Iranian regime are identical. They then ask: Is President Obama really so naive as to think that the two are different? They raise this in light of the latest news about the Obama administration’s plea to the courts not to put too great a financial burden on the Palestinian Authority, following the law suit filed and won by US citizens whose family members were killed by Palestinian terrorists. Ari and Jeremy conclude that the ‘clash of civilizations’ is upon us. listen now
