Darshan-Leitner’s Landmark Lawsuit — and Victory for Terror Victims
In a landmark law suit, a US jury has awarded over $655 million in damages to the victims of the Second Intifada -- the suicide-bombing war waged against Israelis by the Palestinian Authority in 2000. Israel Law Center attorney for the plaintiffs, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, joins VOI's Josh Hasten by phone to discuss the case and its ramifications. She says that while the verdict constitutes a historical breakthrough, the strenuous work of securing the actual funding for the victims and their families starts now.
Then, VOI's Knesset insider Jeremy Saltan gives his analysis on Rabbi Shlomo Cohen, the Shas party spiritual leader who dubbed Israel's national anthem -- "Hatikva" -- "stupid." Will his comments attract or repel potential Shas voters?
Finally, HonestReporting’s Yarden Frankl joins Josh in-studio to discuss press reports that Israel has opened up dams, in order to flood the Gaza Strip. The problem with this? No such dams exist in southern Israel, yet the story is making waves on the Internet. Yarden also responds to Jodi Rudoren of the New York Times, who claims that groups like HonestReporting criticize her because of a political "agenda." He asks, "Who really has an agenda?"
