As Egypt responds to an ISIS attack against its military in the Sinai, requesting permission from Israel to bring more forces into the peninsula than allowed under the peace treaty, Hamas is reported to be assisting ISIS. Yet, in Gaza, ISIS has threatened to destroy Hamas. Who is on what team? Which group is most dangerous to the Jewish state?
Eight months have passed since the slaying of five Israelis in a Har Nof synagogue. Although the government had approved the demolition of the terrorist’s home, action was only taken this week to “seal” the house. Why did it take so long, and why has it not yet been demolished?
A theater in Haifa putting on a play written by a convicted terrorist serving time in an Israeli jail was receiving funding from both the national and city governments. Recently, the national government withdrew its funding, stating that tax shekels need not pay for “art” that glorifies a vicious murderer of its citizens. However, the city of Haifa announced it would continue its funding. Is this an appropriate expenditure? Is it a matter of free speech?
Much was made last week of President Barack Obama’s signing of a trade bill instructing US diplomats to include opposition to any boycott of Israel in their free trade negotiations with the European Union. The State Department has backtracked, making it clear it is not opposed to boycotts of Judea and Samaria. Why the follow-up statement? What does it mean?
