Moses’s Monologue and Messiah(50:30)
|
First, as Jews prepare to embark on the weekly reading of the fifth and last book of the Torah — Devarim, or Deuteronomy, meaning “second-law” — Rabbi Feuer, educational director of Sulam Yaakov, joins Yishai to deconstruct the volume’s unique structure of transcribing Moses’s last speech to the people of Israel.
Then, Rabbi Nadel, author, educator and musician, talks about how the 9th of Av — the saddest day in the Jewish calendar, marking the destruction of both Holy Temples in Jerusalem — also symbolizes the greatest hope, as the sages write that the day holds Messianic potential. Yishai talks about commemorating this year’s 9th of Av in a mostly rebuilt Jerusalem, and hears from Rabbi Nadel about how one can observe such an auspicious time.
