First, Josh hears from Yarden, who reviews this week’s media coverage of Israel in relation to the attacks on participants in the Jerusalem Pride and Tolerance March and an Arab family. Are these the acts of a select few or the product of a “culture of hate?” AP reports Palestinian Authority official Saeb Erekat’s condemnation of Israel, without investigating whether there is truth to what he says. It’s an example of the media reporting the narratives they want.
Then, Josh is joined in-studio by “Art Israel” founder Paul Taylor and executive director Fiona Kanter to discuss their new initiative aimed at showcasing Israeli art. The open-submission, inclusive, far-reaching, curated annual event will have its inaugural display at Jerusalem’s First Station (next door to the VOI studio) in September 2016, giving artists a chance to create and submit their work. Taylor says that Jerusalem was always his choice city to host the event, due to its centrality in the Israeli consciousness.
