The Victims’ Voices(25:19)
|
Speaking at the time from the Jerusalem Hyatt Regency Hotel, former resident of the evacuated Neve Dekalim community Liora Wexler — a strong, passionate mother-of-six — tells of her family’s journey up until that point. She describes the enormous pain, the tribulations, the courage and the faith of her neighbors and her children.
Then, Yishai shares 2005 recordings of his talks with the volunteers, young and old, who committed themselves to helping those forcibly removed from their homes and left with nothing. Rabbi David Milston of Alon Shevut, a leader in aid services, describes how hundreds of Jews from Gush Katif were bused into Jerusalem, where little-to-no infrastructure for dealing with the refugees had been prepared. He tells Yishai about how the people of Israel united, regardless of political or religious affiliation, to help the victims recover from the trauma. In an incredible example of the love shown for the communities of the Gaza Strip, 14-year-old Eitan talks about spending the last days of his 2005 summer vacation babysitting for Gush Katif children.
